Pope Francis made his first public appearance on Sunday since being discharged from the hospital two weeks ago. After receiving treatment for double pneumonia, he arrived in St. Peter’s Square at the Vatican in a wheelchair to meet and greet the assembled crowd.
The 88-year-old pontiff had not been seen publicly since March 23. On that day, he briefly greeted the public before leaving Rome’s Gemelli hospital, where he had been undergoing treatment for more than five weeks due to his most severe health issue during his 12 years as pope.
