Suspense Crime, Digital Desk : Following the passing of actor Mukul Dev on May 23, 2025, filmmaker and actor Pooja Bhatt shared a deeply symbolic passage from Richard Bach’s novella Jonathan Livingston Seagull as a tribute. The excerpt reflects themes of individuality, freedom, and purpose — traits many associate with Mukul Dev’s life and career.
Bhatt’s chosen quote emphasized the pursuit of freedom over societal expectations:
“He spoke of very simple things — that it is right for a gull to fly, that freedom is the very nature of his being, that whatever stands against that freedom must be set aside, be it ritual or superstition or limitation in any form.”
This was followed by a challenge to conformity:
“‘Set aside,’ came a voice from the multitude, even if it be the law of the flock?”
“The only true law is that which leads to freedom. There is no other.”
And a concluding reflection on deeper meaning:
“For most gulls it was not flying that matters, but eating. For this gull, though, it was not eating that mattered, but flight.”
Through this passage, Pooja Bhatt subtly underscored Mukul Dev’s artistic essence — someone who chose expression over convention, meaning over routine.
