What is the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme?
It is an Indian Railways long-term plan to develop over 1300 stations in sections or phases. The strategy intends to transform railway stations into clean transport hubs with easy access including:
- modernising the buildings of the stations
- improved access to the platform and exits/entrances
- integration with metro and bus transport
- eco friendly and handicapped accessible features
- local craft shops encouraging the ‘one station one product’ policy
This initiative helps in blending ancient and modern architecture at the regional level changing the perception of the city’s railway station from a mere transit point to an actual gateway.
