
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sent a letter to Bangladesh's interim chief advisor Muhammad Yunus, extending congratulations to the government and citizens of Bangladesh on their National Day. In his message, Modi stressed the multifaceted nature of India-Bangladesh relations and expressed India’s ongoing commitment to deepening cooperation between the two nations.
"This day reflects our shared past and the sacrifices that have laid a solid foundation for our bilateral relationship," the Prime Minister wrote.
Message Amid Bilateral Tensions
PM Modi’s letter was sent at a time when diplomatic tensions between the two countries have increased over concerns regarding religious minority rights in Bangladesh.
"The values from Bangladesh’s Liberation War continue to guide our relationship, which has grown across several sectors and brought concrete benefits to both nations," the message read.
The Prime Minister also stated that India would continue to strengthen the bilateral partnership, built on shared goals of peace and regional stability. "We remain committed to this partnership, shaped by mutual respect for each other’s priorities and concerns," Modi concluded.
Leaders to Meet at Upcoming Bimstec Summit
Both Narendra Modi and Muhammad Yunus are expected to attend the upcoming Bimstec Summit scheduled in Bangkok on April 3–4, where regional cooperation will be a key focus.
President Murmu Extends Greetings
President Droupadi Murmu also conveyed her wishes to Bangladesh President Mohammed Shahabuddin. “On behalf of the Indian government and citizens, I extend warm greetings to Your Excellency and the people of Bangladesh on your National Day,” she said.
