Suspense crime, Digital Desk : New Delhi, India – Prime Minister Narendra Modi today highlighted a pivotal but often overlooked moment in India's history: the historic conversation between Mahatma Gandhi and the great social reformer Sree Narayana Guru. Speaking at an event marking the 92nd anniversary of the Sivagiri pilgrimage, the Prime Minister stated that this dialogue gave India's freedom movement a "new direction and soul."
Modi explained that the meeting profoundly impacted the freedom struggle by fusing the political fight for independence with the equally crucial battle for social reform. He emphasized that the conversation helped solidify the idea that true freedom was not just about ousting a foreign power but also about eradicating deep-rooted social evils like untouchability and caste discrimination from within Indian society.
"The conversation between Sree Narayana Gurudev and Mahatma Gandhi showed a new direction to our freedom movement," PM Modi said. He pointed out that while many were focused solely on political liberation, Sree Narayana Guru championed a parallel revolution against social injustices.
The Prime Minister invoked the Guru's powerful and timeless message: "One Caste, One Religion, One God for Humanity." He described this philosophy as a guiding light for social equality and national integration.
Connecting this historical legacy to his government's present-day policies, Modi stated that his mantra of "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas" (With all, for everyone's development, with everyone's trust, and with everyone's effort) is directly inspired by the teachings of spiritual leaders like Sree Narayana Guru. He positioned his government's welfare initiatives for the poor and marginalized as a continuation of the social reform agenda set forth by these national icons.
The Prime Minister's address, delivered at the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Brahma Vidyalaya, served as a powerful tribute, underscoring Sree Narayana Guru's immense contribution to shaping a modern, inclusive, and just India.
