Passengers on a Guwahati-to-Chennai IndiGo flight experienced a frightening ordeal that ended in relief on Tuesday after their pilot had to make a "Mayday" call and perform an emergency landing at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru. Fortunately, everyone on board is safe.

The flight, IndiGo 6E-138, was en route to its destination when the cockpit crew received a critical warning signal. Reports suggest the alert indicated a potential oil leak or unreliable oil pressure in one of the aircraft's engines.

Understanding the seriousness of the situation, the pilot followed safety protocols, declared a full emergency by issuing a "Mayday" call—the highest level of distress signal—and made the decision to divert the plane to the nearest major airport, which was Bengaluru.

On the ground, airport authorities responded instantly. A full-scale emergency was declared, with fire engines, medical teams, and emergency crews placed on standby along the runway, prepared for the worst.

The tense situation ended safely at 12:54 PM when the aircraft made a successful emergency landing. Passengers and crew disembarked without any injuries. IndiGo later confirmed the incident, citing a "technical issue" and stated that they were making alternative travel arrangements for the passengers to complete their journey to Chennai. The swift and professional actions of the flight crew and the airport's emergency response team were crucial in ensuring a safe outcome.
