The Transport Department is preparing a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to ensure that vehicles parked haphazardly on the roads are parked in parking spaces. The Transport Headquarters has directed all divisional transport officers to develop SOPs in collaboration with the police in their divisions. After receiving SOPs from all divisions, a unified SOP will be developed, which will be implemented throughout the state.

One of the major causes of traffic jams in the state right now is the haphazard parking of vehicles. It has been observed that the largest number of vehicles are parked near major markets. Parking outside many colonies and societies has also become a common practice at night.

According to the law, all vehicles must be parked in a parking lot. Parking in a no-parking area is a punishable offense, resulting in fines. Parking spaces have been created in markets, as well as in every colony and society.

Despite this, vehicle owners find it more convenient to park their vehicles on the roads for their own comfort and convenience. This not only causes inconvenience to the public but also raises the risk of accidents involving these vehicles at night.

Recently, the High Court, while hearing a petition in this regard, directed the Transport Secretary and all District Magistrates to ensure that vehicles are parked in parking lots. In this regard, the Transport Department has decided to prepare a SOP.

Additional Transport Commissioner SK Singh said that all divisions have been instructed to work with the police to develop SOPs. A unified SOP will then be developed.
