Suspense crime, Digital Desk : In a moment of pure college softball magic, Oklahoma Sooners freshman Ella Parker delivered a sensational three-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning, snatching a dramatic 9-6 victory over the Tennessee Volunteers in the Women's College World Series (WCWS). The electrifying blast not only propelled the No. 2 seed Sooners into the WCWS semifinals but also extended their historic NCAA record winning streak to an incredible 50 games.
The game, played at Devon Park in Oklahoma City, was a tense back-and-forth affair. Oklahoma found themselves trailing 6-5 entering the crucial bottom of the seventh. With two outs and the pressure mounting, Rylie Boone singled to load the bases. Kinzie Hansen then showed remarkable composure, drawing a bases-loaded walk to tie the game at 6-6, bringing Parker to the plate with a chance to be the hero.
And a hero she became. Parker, facing a 1-0 count, launched a towering shot over the left-field wall, sending her teammates and the Oklahoma faithful into a frenzy. It was her 13th home run of a stellar freshman season.
Before Parker's late-game heroics, pitcher Kelly Maxwell put in a solid performance for the Sooners. After a slightly rocky start where Tennessee jumped to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning, Maxwell settled in. She ultimately pitched a complete game, striking out five and allowing six runs (five earned) on nine hits, doing enough to keep Oklahoma in contention.
The Sooners had chipped away at Tennessee's lead throughout the game, setting the stage for the unforgettable seventh-inning comeback. This victory keeps Oklahoma's quest for an unprecedented fourth consecutive national championship very much alive. They now advance to the semifinals, needing just one more win to reach the championship series.
For Tennessee, the No. 3 seed, it was a heartbreaking end to a hard-fought game, demonstrating the fine margins and intense competition at the pinnacle of college softball.
