High jump athlete Praveen Kumar converted his Tokyo silver medal into a gold medal in Paris on Friday with a record performance. With this medal, India has managed to overtake countries like Canada and Korea in the medal tally of the Paralympic Games. The country’s para-athletes continued to move ahead, defying estimates of their best Paralympic performance in Paris. Praveen Kumar broke the Asian record in the men’s high jump T64 event to win the gold medal. Players of the T44 category also participate in this event. Praveen (21 years) of Noida, born with short legs, made a season’s best jump of 2.08 meters among 6 players and secured the top position.
