In a serious violation of the 2021 ceasefire agreement, the Pakistan Army intruded into the Krishna Ghati (KG) sector of Poonch district on Tuesday, leading to a mine blast and unprovoked firing. The incident prompted a swift and controlled retaliation from the Indian Army, the Defence PRO in Jammu confirmed.
“On April 1, a mine blast occurred due to Pakistan Army intrusion across the Line of Control (LC). This was followed by unprovoked firing and a ceasefire violation. Our troops responded effectively in a controlled and calibrated manner. The situation is under control,” said an official Army statement.
The Nangi Tekri Battalion, operating under the Krishna Ghati Brigade, managed the response and ensured calm was restored in the area, which remains under strict surveillance.
Simultaneous Counterterror Operations Underway in Kathua
The ceasefire breach occurred as security forces intensified anti-terror operations in the Panjtirthi area of Kathua, Jammu and Kashmir. A joint team of the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and CRPF engaged in a fresh encounter following suspicious movement detected on March 31.
“Multiple surveillance and ambush teams were deployed in the Panjtirthi region. After spotting suspicious movement, a firefight ensued. Search-and-destroy operations were launched at first light on April 1,” stated the Rising Star Corps.
Three Suspected Terrorists Being Hunted in Dense Forests
Security forces have cordoned off the Panjtirthi-Barota forest belt in search of three suspected terrorists. These individuals had previously clashed with security forces near the International Border (IB) on March 23 but managed to flee.
In a related operation, two terrorists were neutralised in Kathua’s Sanyal belt on March 27. The remaining individuals escaped into thick forest terrain, prompting heightened surveillance and a full-scale search operation.
These coordinated developments along the LoC and in the hinterland signal rising tensions, prompting a robust security response to neutralize threats and uphold peace agreements.
