Dhaka: Bangladesh is celebrating ‘Vijay Diwas’ today. On this day, i.e. 16 December, the Indian Army and the Mukti Bahini warriors fought a war against the Pakistani Army and played a major role in liberating Bangladesh. On the eve of ‘Vijay Diwas’ on Sunday, Bangladesh’s ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina launched a scathing attack on the head of the interim government of the country, Mohammad Yunus. Hasina accused the head of the interim government, Mohammad Yunus, of leading an ‘undemocratic group’ and said that he has no accountability towards the people.

Sheikh Hasina called Yunus a ‘fascist’

Sheikh Hasina called Yunus a ‘fascist’ and alleged that the main objective of the government led by him is to suppress the spirit of the Liberation War and pro-liberation forces. Bangladesh celebrates 16 December as Victory Day. On 16 December 1971, the then Pakistan Army Chief General Amir Abdullah Khan Niazi along with 93,000 soldiers surrendered to the joint forces of the Indian Army and Mukti Bahini after a 13-day war. After this incident, East Pakistan became Bangladesh.

‘Power is being seized’

In her statement, Hasina said that ‘anti-national groups’ have seized power in an unconstitutional manner. She said, ‘This undemocratic group led by fascist Yunus has no accountability to the people. They are seizing power and obstructing all public welfare work.’

‘The people of Bangladesh are worried’

Criticising the Yunus government, Hasina said that the people of Bangladesh are burdened by rising prices. She said that since this government is not democratically elected, it has no accountability towards the people. Its main aim is to suppress the spirit and voice of the liberation struggle and pro-liberation forces. In August this year, Hasina had to leave the country and come to India due to large-scale anti-government protests.
