Suspense crime, Digital Desk : If a message has popped up on your WhatsApp or social media feed warning of a major Indian Railways fare hike from July 1, 2024, you can breathe a sigh of relief. That information is completely false.
The government's official fact-checking body, the Press Information Bureau (PIB), has stepped in to shut down these widespread rumors. They have publicly confirmed that a viral claim about increased ticket prices, new Tatkal booking rules, and higher cancellation fees is fake.
Indian Railways has made no such announcements.
What the Fake Message Claimed
The misleading message, which spread rapidly online, tried to cause panic by falsely claiming the following changes would take effect on July 1:
- Fare Hike: A significant, unspecified increase in train fares.
- Platform Tickets: A 25% hike in the price of platform tickets.
- Tatkal Bookings: A change in Tatkal reservation timings, with AC Tatkal bookings supposedly moving to 10:30 AM and Sleeper Class to 11:30 AM.
- Cancellation Charges: An increase in fees for cancelling tickets.
- Waiting List: A new rule that would prevent waiting list tickets from being issued after a certain time.
To be clear: None of this is true. The current fare structure, reservation timings, and cancellation policies remain unchanged.
