The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has introduced a 5% average toll hike on national highways and expressways, effective April 1. This revision applies to toll charges at approximately 855 toll plazas across India and is part of the government’s annual rate adjustment exercise.

A senior official from the Ministry of Highways told PTI that the revised charges, based on changes in the wholesale price index (WPI)-linked inflation, are implemented every year on April 1 under the National Highways Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) Rules, 2008.

Coverage and Impact of Toll Revision
Of the 855 toll plazas across the national highway network:

675 are public-funded fee plazas

180 are concessionaire-operated toll plazas

The new toll rates affect key routes, including:

Delhi-Meerut Expressway

Eastern Peripheral Expressway

Delhi-Jaipur Highway

And other major inter-city corridors

These rate hikes are notified separately by NHAI for each highway and expressway.
