Passport Home Verification : To further reduce the complexities involved in passport processes, Ghaziabad Police Commissionerate has introduced a new system which allows people to stay at home and have their passports verified. Police officers will now perform the necessary checks at the applicant's residence.

 Volume of Daily Passport Verifications

Checking the applicant’s criminal record as well as other details associated with the passport becomes verification and this form of checking fetching around 30 to 40 verification requests a day from Modinagar, Muradnagar, Niwari, Bhojpur and other areas.

Difference between the Old System and New System

In the past, applicants were asked to bring their documents along with photos to the police station which seemed to take ages. Such embarrassment is no longer available as it is now the duty of the beat constables to conduct passport check at the home of the applicant. These officers are now required to look forward to capturing the relevant documents, verifiable through the ostensible signing of the document will happen on the doc, ready to be handed over at leisure – no more waiting. The new approach has already been implemented in the Modinagar region.

Lessening Unlawful Exploitation

There have been reports of unscrupulous passport verification fees, ranging from Rs 500 to Rs 1000, being collected at police stations. With the introduction of this new home verification system, such nefarious activities are designed to decline significantly, which will aid the applicants. Conversations concerning this modification were recently foregrounded during police crime meetings.

Modinagar ACP Gyan Prakash Rai says that the shift to this home verification system is already in progress, as beat constables already carry out doorstep verification as part of their duties. All the police station in-charges have been briefed and are ready to put these systems into practices, with some training already provided.
