Suspense crime, Digital Desk : Passengers and crew aboard a Saudi Airlines flight had a heart-stopping moment during their landing at Lucknow's Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport on Sunday evening. In a serious aviation incident known as a "tail strike," the rear end of the Airbus A330 aircraft scraped against the runway surface, but thankfully, the pilots managed to land the plane safely, averting a potential catastrophe.
The flight, SV-894, was completing its journey from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, with 289 passengers and 11 crew members on board. The incident occurred at approximately 6:00 PM. While the exact cause is under investigation, a tail strike can happen due to factors like unstable approach, strong crosswinds, or pilot error, and is considered a significant safety event.
Following the dramatic landing, all 300 people onboard disembarked without any injuries. However, the aircraft sustained damage to its tail section and was immediately grounded for a thorough inspection and necessary repairs.
As a direct result of the incident, the return flight to Jeddah, SV-895, was cancelled. The airline has arranged for the stranded passengers to be accommodated in a local hotel while they await alternative travel arrangements.
India's primary aviation authority, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), has been notified and has launched a formal investigation into the incident. Investigators will examine the flight data recorder, cockpit voice recorder, and other factors to determine what led to the dangerous landing and to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
