Suspense Crime, Digital Desk : The government is leveraging new technology to make rural development more transparent, accountable, and effective. To this end, the two-day National Rural Development Conference, which began in New Delhi, discussed future strategies in detail.

A highlight of the conference was the launch of the country's first AI-based rural internal audit portal, which will help fully digitize the monitoring of rural development schemes. Until now, audits of schemes were based on paper records.

What will happen after the new portal comes into place?

The new portal will bring the audit process online. Planning, inspections, audit report preparation, corrective action, and review of past cases will all be conducted on a single platform. AI and data analytics will enable early identification of districts and schemes with a high risk of irregularities or financial misstatements. This will facilitate timely remediation.

Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, inaugurating the conference, emphasized that simply launching schemes is not enough. It is crucial that government assistance reaches the eligible beneficiaries in a timely manner. To achieve this, he emphasized strengthening the beneficiary verification process, increasing women's income through self-help groups, promoting rural entrepreneurship, and implementing skill development programs tailored to local needs.

Chauhan clarified that the goal of rural development should not only be to carry out construction work, but also to ensure its quality, maintenance, transparency, and real change in people's lives. Digital technology, AI, and data-driven monitoring will increase accountability of schemes, and better coordination between the central and state governments will ensure their benefits reach those in need more effectively.

Describing rural roads as the backbone of rural development, discussions also focused on road construction using new technologies, utilizing plastic waste, and completing projects within the stipulated timeframe. The government aims to improve rural access to education, health, markets, and employment by building a large number of new rural roads this year.

The conference also reviewed programs such as the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural), Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, National Rural Livelihoods Mission, Rural Skill Development, Social Security Pensions, and Vikasit Bharat-Ji Ram Ji. States shared their experiences and offered suggestions for better implementation of the schemes.
