Gujarat's GIFT City Surges 9 Places into World's Top Financial Hubs: Ranks 37th Globally in GFCI 40
India's landmark international finance and technology hub, Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City), has achieved a major milestone by climbing nine positions to rank 37th worldwide in the latest Global Financial Centres Index (GFCI 40). Advancing from its previous 46th position in the GFCI 39 survey, the greenfield smart metropolis has solidified its standing as an emerging international investment corridor. Situated strategically along the banks of the Sabarmati River between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, GIFT City stands as the only Indian financial jurisdiction to enter the elite top 15 financial centers across the Asia-Pacific region.
FinTech Surge and Five-Year Global Growth Projections
Alongside its broad index leap, the Indian smart city made significant gains in specialized financial technology benchmarks, jumping three spots from 29th to 26th globally in the FinTech category rankings. The comprehensive GFCI report highlighted GIFT City among the top 15 financial nerve centers globally projected to gain substantial strategic significance over the next two to three years. Analysts noted that this dual upward momentum reflects the rapid expansion of cross-border financial services, regulatory streamlining, and seamless convergence between digital innovation, capital markets, and corporate enterprise within the specialized zone.
IFSC Framework Rivals London and Singapore Financial Ecosystems
Operating as India’s premier International Financial Services Centre (IFSC), the administrative zone provides offshore financial entities, global banks, and foreign institutional investors with regulatory frameworks comparable to established global exchanges like London and Singapore. The index study emphasized critical future priorities for international financial districts over the coming five years, highlighting secure cloud architecture, high-speed data interconnectivity, cybersecurity resilience, progressive digital asset compliance, strong anti-money laundering (AML) protocols, and deep capital market liquidity as key drivers where GIFT City continues to expand its global competitive edge.
