In a massive show of agrarian solidarity, the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) convened its historic first night Mahapanchayat at the Government Inter College (GIC) grounds in Muzaffarnagar on Thursday. Addressing thousands of farmers assembled under the leadership of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha, BKU national spokesperson Chaudhary Rakesh Tikait delivered a sharp political message on the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 76th birthday. Tikait asserted that since the day marked the birthday of the nation’s "king," the government should follow historical tradition by throwing open the royal state treasury to resolve the crippling financial distress facing India's farming community, warning that farmers would not back down from nationwide agitational paths if their fundamental demands continued to be ignored.
Opposition to India-US Agri Deal and Demand for ₹500 Sugarcane State Advised Price
Mounting a fierce critique of foreign economic partnerships affecting agriculture, Rakesh Tikait strongly demanded the immediate cancellation of the proposed India-US trade deal on the agricultural draft framework, warning that compromising domestic market sovereignty would trigger nationwide demonstrations to safeguard indigenous crop varieties and soil biodiversity. Reinforcing the movement's local economic agenda, BKU National President Chaudhary Naresh Tikait declared that sugarcane cultivators across the Western Uttar Pradesh belt will firmly reject any State Advised Price (SAP) below ₹500 per quintal for the upcoming crushing season. The rally witnessed key leaders pledge mutual support, including Uttarakhand’s Khanpur MLA Umesh Kumar Sharma, Gathwala Khap head Thanedar Shyam Singh Malik, and agricultural delegates across Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh.
BKU Submits Comprehensive 16-Point Charter to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath
Presided over by Chaudhary Naresh Tikait, coordinated by Dheeraj Latiyan, and addressed by district leaders including Muzaffarnagar district president Naveen Rathi, the Mahapanchayat formally submitted a 16-point memorandum addressed to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The resolution calls for guaranteed remunerative prices with effective procurement machinery, expedited sugar mill clearing dues, permanent resolutions to erratic rural electricity supply, uninterrupted distribution of DAP and urea fertilizers, comprehensive solutions to the stray cattle menace, prompt disaster compensation, genuine assessment-based crop insurance payouts, reinforced canal irrigation networks, agricultural debt relief, elimination of mandi exploitation, social safety nets for agrarian laborers, farmer-friendly land acquisition safeguards, withdrawal of police cases against protesting farmers, strict cost controls on farming inputs, structured periodic government consultations with farm unions, and regional infrastructure upgrades including a barrage over the Solani River alongside sub-division (tehsil) status for Purkaji.
