Recently, in Atul’s podcast, the actor’s wife revealed that they had a love marriage at a time when social structures did not allow it. While interacting with Atul’s YouTube channel, Mridula revealed that she married Pankaj despite the apprehensions of the families of both sides. She recalled how she first met the actor at the wedding of her brother, who was marrying Pankaj’s sister. Mridula said that while their affection for each other was growing, she feared that their relationship would not be accepted as she was from a family with a high social standing.

She said, ‘It is still not acceptable. We are not blood relatives, but in our culture, it is unacceptable for a woman to marry into a low-status family when another woman is already married into a high-status family. And since my sister-in-law was married to a person of higher status than hers in my family, I could not marry into her family, which was considered low status.’
How did you tell your heart to your father?
Mridula was in Class IX and Pankaj in Class XI when they first felt feelings for each other. Later, when she was about to marry someone else, she decided to break the news to her father, who gave a surprising reaction. She remembers her father saying, “Why didn’t you tell me earlier? I don’t waste time looking for boys.” Her mother and sister-in-law, on the other hand, felt dejected.
Even today the mother-in-law does not accept the relationship.
Mridula said that it took time for everyone to accept this relationship, but the differences still exist today. She said, ‘There was an uproar. Bhabhi was not happy, mother was not happy. They were worried about how he would take care of me, but slowly they started accepting us.’ Pankaj, Mridula, and their families have come a long way from those days. Talking further in this episode, Mridula also mentioned her mother-in-law and said, ‘My mother-in-law has not accepted me till date, for the reasons I have mentioned earlier. She is still upset with this interrelationship, but what can we do about it now?’
