Suspense crime, Digital Desk : The Malayalam film industry, popularly known as Mollywood, is launching a major crackdown on substance abuse. In a landmark decision, all actors and crew members will soon be required to sign a legal affidavit declaring they will not use drugs during the production of a film. This "no-drug" clause will be an integral part of their employment contract.
This sweeping new rule was unanimously decided in a joint meeting of the industry's most powerful bodies, including the Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA), the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), the Kerala Film Producers' Association, and the Kerala Film Chamber of Commerce.
The move comes in response to a growing crisis within the industry. Producers have long complained that drug use on sets has led to significant production delays, on-set indiscipline, and erratic behavior from artists, causing massive financial losses and tarnishing the industry's reputation.
By making the no-drug affidavit a mandatory part of the remuneration contract, the industry is creating a powerful enforcement mechanism. A breach of this clause could lead to severe professional and financial consequences, as it would be a direct violation of their work agreement.
This initiative is part of a broader push to instill greater discipline and professionalism in Mollywood. The film bodies aim to create a cleaner, safer, and more efficient work environment for everyone involved. This united front signals a clear message: the industry is serious about cleaning up its act and will no longer tolerate illicit drug use on its watch.
