The box office collection of Mohanlal's action drama film, L2: Empuraan, crossed 50 crores since its release on March 27. The film opened to great success.

The movie is directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, who himself comes from a family of actors in the Kerala film industry. As per Sacnilk estimates, the movie was set to do 14 crores on the first Sunday in the box office but did approximately 45.35 crores in just three days.

The movie also did exceptionally well in the later shows, where the afternoon shows reached over 84 percent and the evening shows finished strong too with 77 percent. All this indicates how much people are coming out to watch this movie.

For the other language adaptations, the Hindi versions suffered a drop in viewership. In terms of other regions, the Telugu versions reached a solid 17 percent while the Tamil version fared slightly better at 25 percent.

Empuraan made a stormastic entry on the box office, achieving an unprecedented Rs 21.5 crore on the opening day, exceeding all expectations — and doubling the previous highest opening for any Malayalam film - overnight. But, like other films, it suffered a reduction in day two collections, which stood at Rs 11.1 crore, before hovering on day three at Rs 13.25 crore, maintaining exceptional pace.

Besides the economic pros, the film has also found needs at the core of controversy due to the portrayal of the 2002 Gujarat Riots that has worried and excited both spectators and critics.

As the second part of a trilogy, Empuraan revolves around the plot of Lucifer (2019), deepening its expansion. The brilliant Mohanlal featured in the film alongside his extensive circle composed of Prithviraj Sukumaran, Tovino Thomas, Abhimanyu Singh, Indrajith Sukumaran, and Manju Warrier, adding charm to the story.
