To mark its 50th anniversary, Microsoft has introduced a significant update to Copilot, its AI assistant. The goal is to shift Copilot from a generic assistant to a highly personalized AI companion that understands and adapts to individual users.

Mustafa Suleyman, CEO of Microsoft AI, emphasized the company’s vision:
“There will be as many different Copilots as there are people using them. We are taking Copilot from an AI companion to your AI companion,” he said in an official blog post.

New Features in Microsoft Copilot

1. Deep Research Capability
Copilot now supports multi-step research, efficiently finding, analyzing, and synthesizing content from a wide range of sources. This feature drastically reduces the time required for complex research tasks.

2. Enhanced Memory for Personalization
The AI can now remember user-specific preferences, such as task patterns, goals, and favorite content. This leads to smarter recommendations and proactive assistance. Users can fully control, manage, and delete saved memory data at any time.

3. Copilot Actions: Task Execution Across the Web
With Copilot Actions, users can direct the assistant to take actions on their behalf, such as:

Booking tickets

Making dinner reservations

Planning trips

These actions work across many popular platforms, including:

Booking.com

Expedia

OpenTable

Skyscanner

Tripadvisor

Vrbo

and more

4. AI-Generated Personalized Podcasts
Copilot can now create personalized podcasts tailored to user interests. It can summarize research, compare options for travel or purchases, or explain complex topics. Users can upload content or link studies, and Copilot will generate a podcast and allow for ongoing interaction during playback.

5. Return of Clippy and Customization Options
Microsoft also reintroduced visual personalization elements, including the nostalgic return of Clippy. Users can now adjust Copilot’s tone, interaction style, and appearance to better suit their personality and workflow.
