Michelle Obama recently dismissed ongoing rumors about a possible divorce from former President Barack Obama during a podcast with actress Sophia Bush. She spoke openly about her evolving priorities and the importance of focusing on herself after years of family and public service.
Reflecting on post-White House life, Michelle said she’s now prioritizing her own needs—something that wasn’t always possible while raising daughters Sasha and Malia.
“I could have made a lot of these decisions years ago, but I didn’t give myself that freedom,” she said. “Even though I encouraged my kids to live their lives, I used them as a reason to delay mine.”
Reclaiming Control Over Her Time
Michelle explained how she now feels more empowered to choose how she spends her time. Recounting a recent example, she shared, “I looked at my calendar and for the first time, I picked what was best for me—not what others expected.”
Inside the Obamas’ Marriage Buzz
Michelle and Barack Obama have been married for 32 years and are known for their strong public partnership. However, divorce rumors surfaced last year following speculation about Barack being linked to actress Jennifer Aniston.
Further fueling rumors, Michelle missed a few high-profile events, including Donald Trump’s second inauguration and the state funeral for former President Jimmy Carter.
Barack Obama’s Take on the Relationship
In a recent conversation with Hamilton College President Steven Tepper, Barack Obama admitted, “I’m in a deep deficit with my wife” following his presidency. He added that he’s been working to make up for lost time by “doing occasionally fun things” with Michelle.
