Sheinbaum added that Mexico and the U.S. "maintain a good relationship within a framework of respect for each other's sovereignty," referencing the importance of diplomatic balance despite rising tensions linked to U.S. President Donald Trump's recent tariff announcements, which have intensified a trade dispute.
Focus on Migration and Security Cooperation
According to an official statement from the Mexican government, the discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in key areas such as migration and security. The two sides reiterated a mutual understanding based on “respect for sovereignty and coordination without subordination.”
This diplomatic engagement comes during a time when bilateral ties are being tested by economic friction, yet both countries continue to prioritize collaborative efforts in maintaining border security and addressing regional challenges.
