Mani Shankar Aiyar: Either as a laughable twist of fate or a strategic move, the same Rajiv Gandhi who adepted politics for Mani Shankar Aiyar is now being referred to as illiterate by him decades later. What exactly happened was that a senior leader of Congress Mani Shankar Aiyar has yet again found himself amidst controversies. This time he crossed the red line by publicly claiming that Rajiv Gandhi the Prime Minister had failed in his education not once but twice, and yet went on to become the Prime Minister. Both rest and Aiyar' statement were unexpected in political circles. The uproar was particularly intense among congress leaders and the BJP struck this as an opportunity to criticize the Congress party.

Immediate Aayar-in statement protest.. BJP firing offensive.

Actually, None from Congress was pleased with Aayar's answer. Pawan Bansal, Former Union Minister called it “ridiculous”, while he himself said, ‘How can one argue that Rajiv Gandhi was not a great leader of this country. He single-handedly revolutionized the IT sector and earned accolades globally.’ Aiyar used to refer to himself as one of his closest aides, and considering that, those sorts of remarks were utterly unfathomable.

But the BJP is known to constantly pounce on any opportunity to attack the Congress party, and this was no exception. Amit Malviya, head of the BJP IT cell shared the interview with Iyer on social media and claimed that the facts are finally being revealed. In the video, Iyer describes the Macaulayans as people who exercise great effort in helping students pass their Cambridge University, and so it is nigh impossible to fail. He went on to claim that Rajiv Gandhi was adept at failing, and after failing to succeed in his first year at Imperial College London, his later years of study also proved futile. To this day I am shocked by the fact that a person this incompetent was able to serve as a Prime Minister.

Congress's response was to slam Aiyar for being desperate, which in some way seems like the party is distancing itself from Aiyar's comments. Aiyar's statements are those of a desperate man, as suggested by Congress’s Harish Rawat. The same infused vision that Rajiv Gandhi had to modernize the nation by starting the process of economic liberalization is marvelously appreciated by some self-hating Congressmen.

Mani Shankar Aiyar has once again placed Congress in a stage of turmoil over his statement. Controversies do not seem new to him. In 2017, he was suspended from Congress for using derogatory terms for Modi during the Gujarat election campaign. He also made fun of Modi's ‘chai wala’ comment in 2014.

Having cut ties from the Gandhi family,

Aiyar recently claimed that the Gandhi family built his political career and subsequently ended it. He asserted that in the last decade, he has met Sonia Gandhi only once, and has seen Rahul and Priyanka even less.
