Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, responded sharply on Wednesday to comments made by Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, who took a jibe at her government regarding the recent Murshidabad violence that is connected to the Waqf (Amendment) Act.
In her address to the Imams, Banerjee also accused Yogi of double standards and went on to say, “Yogi is the biggest Bhogi (materialistic).” She called out what she deemed hypocritical ‘un-governance’ by bringing up deep-rooted issues in U.P. such as the ‘Maha Kumbh’ stampede in Prayagraj.

In her defense, she also went on to issue criticism stating that, “Yogi is not allowing any rallies to take place in his state. And he is the one who speaks to much. In Bengal, we have freedom.” Providing further context, the chief minister said that the police encounters in her state, as opposed to U.P. where they are non-democratic, enable people to express the public’s opinions in a peaceful and free manner.
Alongside these statements, she also directed fire at the Waqf (Amendment) Act, labeling it as ‘atrocious’ stating that it has the potential to further fracture the country’s already crumbling cohesive spirit. She went on to call out the Prime Minister exhorted him to withdraw the acts while accusing Hemant of politically motivated acts that harm the unity of the country.

Following the violence that took place in Murshidabad, Yogi took aim at Banerjee. In his speech while on a rally, he said, “She calls rioters peace ambassadors and they are burning Bengal. Only a danda works with such people.”
Yogi accuse West Bengal Government [ABC] for fomenting anarchy disguised with secularism. He continued on the statement by saying, “They’re giving a free hand to rioters in the name of secularism. This must be controlled.”
Alleging violence by state actors, “Protesters throughout the whole of Murshidabad and also South 24 Parganas gained behind attacked the Waqf Amendment act.” According to reports, In the course of Violence, a total of 3 bodies were recovered. A multitude of people were also admitted with injuries due to the fights between law enforcement and demonstrators.
He also claimed that securitical areas lack supervision, maintaining that those spaces hold potential risk with focused guarding.
Spread across Murshidabad and half of South 24 Parganas opened to fire after the implementation of the Waqf Amendment Act came into force. The violence reported around that time resulted with: 3 dead, many seriously injured in the struggle.
