From broader genres to intricate sounds, now it’s Mumbai that is prepping for the third version of Lollapalooza. Described as the biggest multi-genre music festival, it is returning with a boundary-breaking lineup. The striking diverse mix of music from rock, rap, electronic and indie has something for everyone.

Over a period of two days, the festival offers more than twenty hours of toe-tapping music with stunning energetic beats and more than four stages. And a lot of artists are tailoring their set to match this energy.

More Intense Set

"The Lollapalooza setlist has a lot more energy than what I’d play on a intimate setting," disclosed the singer-songwriter Raghav Meattle.

He further explains how festivals as a whole have “a certain dynamism” and there is always the need to keep the audience captivated, especially the select few who might have stumbled upon it.

"So? I have a stronger Live Set presence and I know that’s the main reason, but my songwriting skills are still there. It’s about not giving people a reason to not to dance while at the same time having my sound,” he continues.

Although Raghav cherishes intimate house gigs as a part of his journey, he is excited to connect with the younger Lollapalooza crowd who might be unfamiliar with his music.

Musician from a banker.

Indeed, Lollapalooza India is set to happen in 2025 and will feature many new emerging artists. It is a spectacle watching the frenzy build around Green Day and Tomlinson’s debut performance, but the festival also focuses on artists such as Sahil Vasudeva.

Vasudeva is a self proclaimed US banker turned Western classical piano musician and likes to refer to his compositions as films that depict a story with a piano. These films are composed together with elements of electronics, synthesizers, beats and sound design.

He also guarantees that he will outdo himself at Lollapalooza and showcase his exclusive festival repertoire that includes an enormous set design combining dance, visual art, and theatre.

“I will try to do the impossible, which is to make the young people feel something when they walk away. The idea is to put together everything in the set, dance, visuals, and theatre to make it really captivating”.

He, however, seems not too concerned about the lack of attention deep into younger demographics as he tries to make his music more universal.

“Every now and then, my tracks end up being 10 minutes long… so if you want to tell a story and create a narrative, it cannot be done in an Instagram reel format.”

Even so, Raghav recalls that shorter attention spans are a factor in music, and he believes social media does have an effect on music composition.

“I think it does influence composition in some ways. With social media, attention spans are shorter, so it's easy to understand why artists consider how a hook or melody would work in a short video. At the same time I try to stick to my sound instead of trying to follow trends.”

Lollapalooza India is organized and marketed by BookMyShow live.
