Opening Day: The film debuted with a record-breaking ₹21.5 crore, doubling the previous highest opening for any Malayalam film. 

Day 2: Collections dipped to ₹11.1 crore.

Day 3: The film saw a slight recovery, earning ₹13.25 crore.

Day 4: Early estimates indicate a collection of ₹14 crore, bringing the total domestic box office collection to ₹59.35 crore. 

The film's worldwide gross has surpassed ₹100 crore, solidifying its position as a major success in the Malayalam film industry. 

Controversial Depictions

Despite its commercial success, L2: Empuraan has faced criticism for its portrayal of the 2002 Gujarat riots. The depiction has led to political debates and backlash from various groups. 

Response and Revisions

In light of the controversy, the filmmakers have announced 17 cuts to the film, including edits to riot sequences and changes to certain character names and dialogues. Mohanlal has expressed regret for any distress caused and emphasized his commitment to ensuring his work does not harbor hatred towards any political movement or religious sect.
