Suspense Crime, Digital Desk : On Sunday, Han Duck-soo, the former Prime Minister and acting President of South Korea, officially suspended his efforts to obtain the conservative party’s nomination for the upcoming presidential race. His campaign underwent self-destructive hurdles with the People Power Party just weeks out of the election.

The rival opponent, Kim Moon-soo, was voted in as the confirmed nominee post the party’s election on Saturday. Han’s last-minute decision to candidacy out disrupted prior agreement but did not muster sufficient backing either.

Kim Moon-soo Becomes Conservative Nominee

Immediately after, the party held a primary whereby Kim Moon-soo submitted his nomination papers for the People Power Party on Sunday morning, registering as a candidate. Now goes on to face Lee Joyae of the opposing Democratic Party on the June 3 ballot.

This was after the previously scheduled for June 3 by-elections stemming from the impeachment of previous head of state Yoon Suk Yeol who was ousted in April due to ego crushing breach of duty whilst underage temporary marshall law in December.

Unsuccessful Negotiations for Conservative Cohesion

This past week, Han and Kim sought to merge their campaigns along conservative lines. Nevertheless, these attempts came to a standstill further increasing possibility of a conservative vote divide.

While serving as prime minister, Han refrained from joining the nomination process, even though he was more popular. As a result of a party convention, Kim had already been chosen and resisted pressure to vacate the position for Han.
