Congress chief and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, has demanded an unconditional public apology from Union Minister Anurag Thakur for what he described as “wild and baseless” allegations regarding land grabbing. Kharge declared in Parliament that if Thakur fails to provide evidence, he should resign. However, if Thakur can prove the charges, Kharge offered to resign himself.

Kharge: “I Will Break, But Never Bow”

In a powerful speech in the Rajya Sabha, Kharge said, “If the BJP wants me to bend by scaring me, I will never bow down. I will break, but will never bow.” He further added, “If Thakur cannot present even a single document, he must apologize in the House and step down from his post.”

Kharge Shares His Pain on Social Media

Taking to platform X, Kharge wrote, “I rise in deep anguish. My life has always been an open book, full of struggles and battles, but I have always upheld the highest values in public life. After almost 60 years in politics, I don't deserve this.”

Congress Terms Allegations as Politically Motivated

The Congress party also issued a statement, sharing KC Venugopal’s remarks from the Lok Sabha, defending Kharge’s reputation. “The allegations made by Minister Anurag Thakur against Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge ji, a top leader of this country, are unacceptable,” the post read.

It continued, “Kharge ji rose from the grassroots level, faced immense hardship, and gained a lot of experience in public life. The misleading data about him is unacceptable and was deliberately used to malign his reputation.”

Ongoing Tensions in Parliament

The exchange marks another episode of heightened tension between the ruling BJP and the Opposition in Parliament. While Anurag Thakur’s allegation has not yet been backed with documented evidence, the Congress has made it clear it will continue to defend Kharge’s integrity both inside and outside the House.
