Security forces intensified their search operations in the forested region of Kathua district, Jammu and Kashmir, following the recovery of the fourth policeman's body and two slain Pakistani terrorists. The encounter, which began on Thursday, entered its third day on Saturday.
Head Constable Jagbir Singh’s body was recovered from the Ghati Juthana forest in Rajbagh and taken to Jammu, where a wreath-laying ceremony was held at Gulshan Ground Police Headquarters.
Two Pakistani Terrorists Eliminated, Linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed
Officials confirmed that the bodies of two Pakistani terrorists, believed to be affiliated with Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM)—a designated terrorist organization—were recovered along with weapons and other war-like materials.
Although initial reports suggested three terrorist casualties, DGP Nalin Prabhat clarified on Friday evening that only two terrorists were killed. The group is said to be the same that was earlier intercepted in Saniyal village near the International Border on March 23 but had escaped.
Tributes Paid to Martyred Policemen
The deceased policemen—Balwinder Singh Chib, Jaswant Singh, Tariq Ahmed, and Jagbir Singh—were honored with wreath-laying ceremonies at District Police Lines Kathua and Jammu Headquarters. Their remains were later handed over to their families.
Ongoing Search Operation and Strategic Measures
Security forces are now combing adjacent areas, including Billawar heights, to locate other suspected militants. Loud explosions and gunfire heard Saturday morning were later confirmed to be part of a controlled disposal of explosive materials left at the scene.
The Army’s Rising Star Corps confirmed ongoing operations, stating:
"Relentless operations since March 27 have led to the elimination of two terrorists and recovery of war-like stores."
DGP’s Vow: ‘No Rest Until Terror Is Eliminated’
Addressing the media, DGP Nalin Prabhat said the sacrifice of the four policemen would be honored through continued action.
“There is no dilution in our intention. This war will continue until we deal with our impure neighbour and its terror networks appropriately.”
He also confirmed that the policemen were attacked as they climbed a hill, giving the terrorists an upper hand due to the terrain.
Claim of Responsibility and Political Condolences
The People’s Anti-Fascist Front (PAFF), a proxy outfit of the Jaish-e-Mohammed, claimed responsibility for the attack.
Senior CPI(M) leader M Y Tarigami extended condolences to the bereaved families, stating:
“Violence serves no purpose—it only brings pain and loss.”
