Karnataka Crime News: One of the most shocking crimes in Karnataka happened in Hosur where 14-year-old school dropout girl was abducted by a 29-year-old construction worker called Madesh. Madesh, who had been stalking the girl, started following her after she tried to revolt against getting married. He even had his elder brother Mallesh, aged 38, and two other men to assist him in his attempts to pick the girl up by force. The incident was inadvertently made public when bystanders recorded videos of the whole thing on their phones, leading to them getting posted on social media platforms.
Marriage as an ordeal for young women The victim is from Thimmathur, a village that is close to Tamil Nadu. Her family had plans arranged to marry her off to this stranger called Madesh who happened to be residing in Kalikuttai village in Karnataka. The gruesome wedding took place in Bengaluru and from what we have gathered, she had only completed 7th standard. After marrying, Madesh’s wife escaped and returned to her native village. Her husband would have wanted to be as all controlling husbands do; However, he wanted his wife to go to his home. When she began to complain about how nobody cared her during her crisis, Madesh and his elder brother Mallesh decided to take charge of her, and attempted the act of kidnapping her from her relative's place and bring her to Kalikuttai.

Grandmother lodged a complaint

The all women police station in Denkanikottai moved quickly after a social media video gained tremendous traction. Madesh, Mallesh, and the girl’s mother Nagamma were arrested on Wednesday at the girl’s grandmother's complaint. Today, Mallesh’s wife and the girl's father were also arrested. All of them have been charged under POCSO and the Child Marriage Prohibition Act. Should they be found guilty, the offenders face two years’ imprisonment and a fine of one hundred thousand rupees.

Child marriage in India

The girl presently stays with her grandparents. Marrying off a girl before the age of eighteen is illegal in India, but child marriage continues being a problem in many parts. For the year 2023 to 2024, the state of Karnataka reported one hundred eighty child marriages with police intervention in seventy five cases.
