Suspense crime, Digital Desk : Renowned Bollywood filmmaker and popular TV host Karan Johar is set to helm a new reality series, "The Traitors," and he's not mincing words about the state of the genre. Johar has boldly declared that many contemporary reality shows are "fraudulent," promising his upcoming Indian adaptation of the hit Dutch format will offer genuine, unscripted drama and psychological intrigue.
Speaking about the show, Johar expressed a strong opinion on the authenticity, or lack thereof, in much of today's reality television. "A lot of reality shows, we know, are not necessarily real," he stated, pointing to the manipulation and pre-decided narratives he believes plague the industry. He emphasized that "The Traitors," which will stream on Disney+ Hotstar, will steer clear of such practices.
"This show is going to be authentic. There's no script, no manipulation," Johar asserted, highlighting that the show will rely on organic interactions and genuine human behavior. The premise of "The Traitors" is a high-stakes psychological game. A group of contestants, known as "the faithful," work together on missions to build a prize pot. However, hidden among them are "the traitors," whose goal is to covertly "murder" (eliminate) the faithful one by one and deceive their way to the prize. The faithful must identify and banish the traitors before they become the majority or claim the winnings.
Johar, known for his sharp wit on "Koffee With Karan," believes his extensive experience in observing human dynamics will be an asset in hosting this "deceptive and thrilling" new venture. He described "The Traitors" as a "killer show," distinct from his previous hosting gigs, expressing his excitement for delving into a world of strategy, suspicion, and raw human emotion. He is positioning "The Traitors" as a refreshing and genuinely suspenseful addition to India's reality TV landscape, promising viewers a raw and captivating social experiment.
