According to investigative authorities, Ranya had made about 30 trips to Dubai over the past year, including four trips in just 15 days. She allegedly smuggled large quantities of gold during these visits. Jatin reportedly accompanied her on many of these journeys, which has brought his name into the spotlight as well.

Ranya Rao and Jatin Hukkeri got married in a lavish ceremony held at Taj West End, Bengaluru, on November 27, 2024. After the wedding, the couple settled in Bengaluru. Ranya's arrest took place at Bengaluru airport in March 2025. Following her detention, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) raided her residence. During the search, officials seized gold jewelry worth Rs 2.06 crore and cash totaling Rs 2.67 crore.
