Ranya Rao, a known face in Kannada cinema, has come under serious legal scrutiny after her arrest in a gold smuggling case. Adding to the controversy, her husband, architect Jatin Hukkeri, publicly announced that he plans to file for divorce. Speaking at a press conference, Jatin stated, “Since the day we got married, I have been enduring pain and distress. Today, I have made the decision to file for divorce.”
Allegations of Frequent Dubai Trips and Smuggling
According to investigative authorities, Ranya had made about 30 trips to Dubai over the past year, including four trips in just 15 days. She allegedly smuggled large quantities of gold during these visits. Jatin reportedly accompanied her on many of these journeys, which has brought his name into the spotlight as well.
Marriage Timeline and Background
Ranya Rao and Jatin Hukkeri got married in a lavish ceremony held at Taj West End, Bengaluru, on November 27, 2024. After the wedding, the couple settled in Bengaluru. Jatin is an architect, while Ranya is the stepdaughter of Ramachandra Rao, who holds the position of Director General of Police at the Karnataka State Police Housing Corporation.
Investigation and Seizures
Ranya's arrest took place at Bengaluru airport in March 2025. Following her detention, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) raided her residence. During the search, officials seized gold jewelry worth Rs 2.06 crore and cash totaling Rs 2.67 crore.
Relationship Strain Evident Before Arrest
Sources suggest that the couple had been facing relationship issues even before Ranya's legal troubles surfaced. Jatin had reportedly begun distancing himself from her due to growing tension between them, and the ongoing criminal case seems to have solidified his decision to separate legally.
