Suspense crime, Digital Desk : In a powerful stand against deep-seated social prejudice, law enforcement in Etawah, Uttar Pradesh, has taken decisive action against several individuals accused of hurling caste-based insults and threats at a religious narrator. The incident, which disrupted a sacred event, has drawn widespread condemnation and highlighted the ongoing struggle for social equality.

The controversy began during a public recitation of the Bhagwat Katha, a revered Hindu scripture, being narrated by Mukut Mani Yadav. According to reports, a group of men from a so-called "upper caste" community took offense that Mr. Yadav, who belongs to the Yadav community, was performing the role of a katha vachak (religious narrator)—a position they wrongfully believed was reserved only for Brahmins.

Witnesses state that the men publicly insulted Mr. Yadav, using derogatory casteist slurs and attempting to stop the narration. They reportedly questioned his "right" to interpret and narrate the holy text, creating a tense and humiliating atmosphere.

Refusing to be intimidated, Mukut Mani Yadav and his supporters filed a formal police complaint (FIR) against the accused individuals. The complaint detailed the threats and the public insults aimed at shaming him based on his caste.

Acting swiftly on the complaint, the Etawah police launched an investigation. After gathering evidence and recording witness statements, they identified and arrested the primary individuals involved. They have been charged under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including those related to promoting enmity between different groups and hurting religious sentiments.

The arrests have been hailed as a victory for social justice and a clear message that caste-based discrimination will not be tolerated. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the challenges that still exist in breaking down centuries-old caste hierarchies, but the firm response by the authorities has been widely praised as a step in the right direction.
