Suspense crime, Digital Desk : England's women's cricket team kicked off their T20 series against Pakistan in dominant fashion, securing a convincing 53-run victory in the first match at Edgbaston, Birmingham. The win gives England a 1-0 lead in the three-match series, serving as crucial preparation for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
Wicketkeeper-batter Amy Jones was the standout performer with the bat for England. Her quickfire 37 runs provided vital impetus to the innings, helping the hosts post a competitive total of 163-6 from their 20 overs. Captain Heather Knight also played a significant knock, scoring 49 and narrowly missing out on a well-deserved half-century, anchoring the innings after an early wobble.
In response, Pakistan's batting lineup struggled to build momentum against a disciplined and potent English bowling attack. Leg-spinner Sarah Glenn was the chief destroyer, returning career-best figures of 4 wickets for just 12 runs, effectively dismantling Pakistan's middle order. Debutant fast bowler Lauren Filer also made an impressive start to her T20 international career, picking up two key wickets, including the dangerous Sidra Ameen early on, to put Pakistan on the back foot. Lauren Bell also contributed with a wicket.
Pakistan never truly threatened the target and were eventually bowled out for 110 in the 19th over. Despite some brief resistance, they were unable to forge significant partnerships to challenge England's score. It was a comprehensive all-round display from England, setting a strong marker for the rest of the series.
