Suspense crime, Digital Desk : Joaquin Phoenix made waves appearing at the 78th Cannes Film Festival celebrating the premiere of his latest movie Eddington. The film also features major roles from Emma Stone, Austin Butler and Pedro Pascal. Phoenix was spotted wearing a tuxedo coupled with a fresh haircut which won praise for both his appearance and performance.

Warm Reception and Standing Ovation

During the Cannes premiere, Phoenix was awarded a 7-minute standing ovation. The actor was left emotional and in tears. The powerful performance was remembered throughout the festival as one of the most iconic moments.

Director and Cast Respond

The reception was moving for Director Ari Aster. Speaking post the premiere, Ari stated, “I don’t even know what I could say.” “Having the courtesy of being here is such a privilege, and to be honest, feels like I’m living a dream.”

Film Overview and Release Details

As per the filming synopsis, Eddington takes place during the COVID-19 pandemic period. It centers around the conflicting feud between the sheriff portrayed by Joaquin Phoenix and the town’s mayor played by Pedro Pascal. The action develops in a fictional town Eddington, New Mexico where people fight with each other as the conflict escalates.  

Other cast members include Luke Grimes, Deirdre O'Connell, Michael Ward, and Clifton Collins Jr.  

Eddington is slated to hit theatres on July 18th.
