Major Overhaul of JPSC and JSSC Exams: Jharkhand Government Forms High-Level Committee to Fill 23,610 Posts
Transparent and efficient recruitment processes form the backbone of good governance, ensuring that qualified youth secure public sector employment without administrative hurdles. When competitive examinations face recurring delays, legal challenges, or irregularities, structural intervention becomes imperative.
Following persistent challenges and irregularities surrounding examinations conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC), the Jharkhand government has initiated comprehensive structural reforms. A high-level committee has been established to overhaul testing procedures, plug loopholes, and streamline the recruitment of thousands of aspirants across the state.
High-Level Committee Formed to Restructure Recruitment Systems
To eliminate systemic flaws and prevent future examination controversies, the state government has constituted a high-level committee operating under the chairmanship of the Development Commissioner. The panel includes the Personnel Secretary and Finance Secretary as core members.
The committee has been tasked with analyzing operational bottlenecks and submitting concrete suggestions to optimize the functioning of both commissions. This mandate extends beyond test administration, covering the service conditions, appointment procedures, and tenure regulations for the commissions' chairpersons and employees. By addressing errors in recruitment rules at the departmental level, the state aims to minimize courtroom interventions that frequently stall public hiring.
Shift to Computer-Based Testing (CBT) and Multi-Stage Exams
To combat modern challenges—most notably the persistent threat of paper leaks and administrative mismanagement—the government is heavily emphasizing technological upgrades.
Proposals are currently underway to transition a majority of competitive examinations into the Computer-Based Testing (CBT) mode, a measure already drafted into proposals by the JSSC. Additionally, authorities are considering conducting preliminary examinations across multiple phases or shifts. This multi-stage approach is designed to alleviate single-day logistical strain, reduce administrative pressure, and secure examination venues against security breaches. September is expected to serve as a crucial window for finalizing these policy decisions.
Massive Recruitment Drive: 23,610 Posts Set to Be Filled
Despite ongoing structural adjustments, the state government remains focused on clearing massive employment backlogs. A total of 23,610 positions are slated to be filled through JPSC and JSSC channels.
JPSC Vacancies: Out of total targeted openings, 1,645 positions fall under the purview of the JPSC. This includes 798 posts where recruitment processes were previously postponed or put on hold, alongside 847 positions awaiting official advertisement.
JSSC Vacancies: The JSSC is set to process 21,965 positions, with active recruitment currently underway for 20,206 posts and upcoming advertisements planned for an additional 1,759 roles.
