The legal case stems from an FIR registered at the Barwada Police Station (Case No. 146/26) on August 22, 2026, filed on the official complaint of Station House Officer Ravi Kumar. The charges name MLA Jairam Mahato, alongside supporters including Sushil Mandal, Dilip Chaudhary, Rajkumar Mandal, and several others.
According to police records, the confrontation began after an individual named Ganesh Das was detained and placed in the Barwada police lockup. Upon learning of the arrest, MLA Jairam Mahato reportedly arrived at the station accompanied by 40 to 50 supporters.
The police complaint alleges that the MLA behaved aggressively toward officers, demanded the immediate release of the detainee, and instructed his supporters to push past security toward the lockup. As tensions escalated within the station premises, supporters allegedly hurled abuses and shoved police personnel. Furthermore, the FIR notes that accused supporter Dilip Chaudhary punched the SHO's official desk, shattering the nameplate and designation board, resulting in serious allegations of obstructing government work and creating a public disturbance.
