Mandatory E-KYC Protocol and Three-Month Reactivation Window

For beneficiaries whose cards are deactivated due to non-collection, the government has provided a structured pathway for reactivation through mandatory biometric e-KYC. A strict three-month window has been designated from October 1, 2026, to January 1, 2027, during which identity verification will be conducted via grassroots field inspections. Citizens who fail to complete their mandatory e-KYC within this designated three-month timeframe will have their cards permanently invalidated, stripping them of subsidized food benefits and related welfare entitlements.

Crackdown on Inactive Holders Exploiting Welfare Schemes

According to state food department officials, a significant number of individuals obtained ration cards primarily to leverage auxiliary welfare programs—such as the Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme and the Maiyaan Samman Yojana—without ever actually collecting their monthly food rations. This regulatory tightening is designed to weed out inactive, duplicate, or ineligible beneficiaries, ensuring that public resources are directed exclusively toward genuinely needy and deserving families.

The ongoing administrative crackdown complies directly with the gazette notifications and operational guidelines issued by the Union Ministry of Food and Consumer Affairs. Under central rules, states are mandated to temporarily freeze ration cards that remain unused for six consecutive months and re-verify beneficiary eligibility through systematic e-KYC and field audits. Jharkhand's food distribution authorities have urged all citizens to check their PDS status immediately and collect their pending rations before the September 30 deadline to avoid suspension.
