The controversy surrounding recruitment examinations in Jharkhand has intensified, with legal challenges mounting against state bodies. A fresh Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been formally filed before the Jharkhand High Court, urgently seeking a comprehensive Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into alleged widespread rigging and irregularities. The petition specifically targets the 14th JPSC Civil Services Examination alongside other recruitment tests conducted by TDPL across the state.
Allegations of Rigging and Insufficiency of CID Investigation
The PIL, filed by petitioner Basant Prasad, brings to light serious allegations of manipulation, corruption, and cash-for-posts scandals plaguing the 14th JPSC Civil Services Examination. According to the petition, candidates were allegedly favored unfairly across multiple examinations managed by TDPL in Jharkhand.
Although a state-level Criminal Investigation Department (CID) inquiry into the matter is currently underway, the petitioner contends that local investigations remain inadequate and insufficient given the involvement of powerful, prominent figures. Consequently, the applicant has strongly pressed for the transfer of the case to the CBI to ensure an impartial, thorough, and high-level judicial probe.

Amidst mounting legal scrutiny over exam corruption, proceedings are also advancing in related criminal cases. Former JPSC Chairman L. Khiangte, who remains incarcerated in connection with the ongoing recruitment irregularities probe, has approached the special CID court seeking regular bail.
The legal representation and arguments concerning his bail petition are scheduled to be heard by the special CID court on August 25.
