Jharkhand Government Takes Strict Action: 1.63 Lakh Ineligible Beneficiaries Removed from Ration List

Post

The Jharkhand government has intensified its verification drive under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), successfully removing approximately 1.63 lakh ineligible beneficiaries from the state's ration card list. This figure accounts for roughly 26 percent of the target identified following a directive from the central government.

Identifying Ineligible Beneficiaries

The statewide drive targets individuals who do not meet the criteria for subsidized food grains. Departmental officials confirmed that notices were previously issued to identify those who secured rations despite being ineligible.

The removed names primarily include:

Individuals currently holding government jobs.

Workers whose provident fund (PF) is actively deducted.

High-income earners and individuals who have not collected rations for the past six consecutive months.

Implementation of NFSA-2 and New Tracking Systems

Under the newly implemented central guidelines and the NFSA-2 framework, the state system is automatically screening and filtering out unqualified cardholders. The updated criteria also factor in financial data, including individuals who have filed GST payments exceeding ₹25 lakh in the previous year.

Additionally, the central government's ongoing push for the One Nation, One Card initiative aims to streamline interstate ration distribution while ensuring that subsidized resources reach genuinely needy families without leakage or misuse.
