Suspense crime, Digital Desk : India's External Affairs Minister, Jaishankar, has blamed the recent terrorist strike at Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on the ‘extreme religious views’ of Pakistan’s army chief, General Asim Munir. In an interview with Dutch broadcaster NOS, Jaishankar referred to the 22nd of April violence as ‘barbaric’ and an attempt to aggravate religious conflict and tourism.

A total of 25 tourists and 1 native were killed in the attack. The attackers are said to have executed Hindu men, so victims were selected on a religious basis. Jaishankar has stated that of the three alleged perpetrators, two were pakistanis and one was local.

Sindoor Operation: India’s Response to Terrorism

Jaishankar disclosed the Indian side identified the culprits of Pahalgam’s attack. According to him, the attack was conducted by, The Resistance Front, which India connects to Lashkar-e-Taiba and Hafiz Saeed. Under Operand Sindoor, India struck nine terror locations within Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir on May 7.

This supports the change in India’s counter-terrorism strategy and supports the claim that the shifting policy seeks ‘zero tolerance’ against terrorism.

Escalated and Ongoing Provocations from Pakistan

Just a few days before the strike, General Munir was quoted referring to Kashmir as “Pakistan’s jugular vein” which arguably is an endorsement of the two-nation theory and separation on cultural and religious fronts from Hindus. These claims Indian officials say encourage terrorism and terror activities.

India’s Cross Global Diplomatic Engagement
India is actively participating in international diplomacy, informing allies including France, Germany, and the UK about purported terror backing from Islamabad. In JAishankar’s words, “India had raised TRF earlier at the UN and will keep working to expose cross-border terrorism.”

Response of Pakistan to Operation Sindoor
Pakistan has denied participation in the Pahalgam episode and retaliated against India’s action with missile strikes dubbed Operation Bunyanun Marsoos. There are reports of increased support for Pakistan’s military after the conflict with India, and General Asim Munir’s recent promotion certainly adds to the speculation.
