Suspense crime, Digital Desk : The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season appears to be continuing, and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is intending to come to a resolution by May 12, Monday. The IPL Governing Council has its meeting set in the afternoon to finalize the discussion about plans to lift the suspension of the tournament.
Four important play-offs remain out of a total 16 matches that need to be played.
Three different frameworks are being considered, as has come to light:
- The standard home-and-away system, played in all the original venues barring possibly Dharamsala.
- A limited-venue approach concentrating on the Southern cities- namely Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Chennai.
- Logistical and safety variations of the previously mentioned limited-venue approach.
The BCCI has not yet issued any kind of statement to the regional cricket councils of the targeted listed cities, so currently, they are in the dark.
As of now, teams have not openly issued anything which also leads to inform franchises being advised to relocate towards their bases, withdrawing from their previous locations. This hint was seen as a possible May 16 or 17 return date.
BCCI meetings have noted outstanding short notice settings, leading to the unpredictable meeting calls such as the council meetings immediately in the wake of the league being pulled. Members of the governing council are still awaiting their invites.
Concerns Regarding Logistics, Safety and Foreign Players
In today’s context, the excessive allocation of league matches into multiple locations is primed to create issues. In order to manage risk exposure optimally, BCCI may prefer a more centralized model with fewer locations. Still, no clear indication has been given.
Whether all foreign players will return is also not certain, especially for those who chose to leave India during the recent turmoil. Regardless, the BCCI is set on making sure that IPL 2025 undergoes complete operational functionality and will do whatever it takes, including altering the format and diminishing the player headcount.
