Both Aishwarya Rai and Manisha Koirala are now part of the history of Bollywood, which was dominated by spectacular, skillful, and graceful women of the Indian subcontinent during the 2 decades of the 1990’s, which was characterized by fierce competition and sensational rumors that kept the headlines busy.
One of the most famous controversies of the period was speculated love affair between Koirala, model Rajeev Mulchandani, and Aishwarya Rai who many suspected were in a love triangle making waves in Bollywood.
Aishwarya Rai - Manisha Koirala controversial drama
Reports suggest Koirala once accused Mulchandani, her boyfriend at the time, to be dating Aishwarya Rai after she claimed to have stumbled upon letters hinting the two were in a romantic relationship.
However, Aishwarya did not remain silent on the matter. She came forth and expressed her utter shock and disappointment regarding the rumors issued.
In an old interview, Aishwarya Rai had once revealed that she meant to go and meet Manisha Koirala to praise her on her performance in Bombay but later decided against it after learning that Manisha had dragged her name into a controversy.
Manisha emplaced an allegation against Aishwarya of infidelity.
With the passing of time, Aishwarya Rai relished the memories that came with watching Bombay. She was casted as Manisha Koirala’s tender admirer and had even thought of offering her a flower bouquet as an emblem of admiration. “I had mentioned to Rajeev how great Manisha’s performance was and that I was really fond of it. He proceeded to cackle which puzzled me. I had no idea of what he was saying, but he wanted to know if I read the papers. Apparently while I was busy lauding her, she was busy claiming to have love letters from my cast mate to me,” explained the actress.
Aishwarya Rai commendably handling the drama provided the actress the opportunity to mask the pain surrounding her. She complimented “On the Remaining Half Case Claim Dismissed” commenting the case would have taken much longer to retire had they not dealt with it head on.
The previously crowned Miss World surely did claim that raising these issues later even led to deeper fears. She questioned why the claims had not been brought into existence much before. If Rajeev and Manisha indeed had a break up, she said, there is no explaining the nine month dormancy period between the claiming. She summarily concluded with claims suggesting constant defends in the opponent’s camp which aimed to bring legal proceedings for contempt of court but later scheduled it most eagerly to submit them where she was less active.
“This Manisha episode did take a lot from me,” cried the actress.
Professionally, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was most recently spotted in the 2023 Tamil movie Ponniyin Selvan II. At the same time, Manisha Koirala was part of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's highly acclaimed film Heeramandi.
