
Gyanesh Kumar, Jharkhand's Chief Election Commissioner, maintained on Saturday that the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) employed in India is safe and could not be tampered with—from a technological standpoint, speaking during his trip to Ramgarh district of Jharkhand.
“EVMs used in India are not only prevented, but also cannot be connected by any means to the internet, Bluetooth, infrared, or any other modem. Therefore, there is no way they can be tampered with,” he elaborated.
He also pointed out that the EVMs are still the main instrument in the voting processes in India, and that they have undergone legal scrutiny.
In Excess of Five Crore VVPAT Slips Verified Without Discrepancy
In a bid to focus on the integrity of elections the CEC disclosed that more than five crore VVPAT (Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail) slips have been verified, with no discrepancies reported.
Strong Democratic Foundation in Jharkhand, Says CEC
Gyanesh Kumar, now on a three-day working visit to the State, arrived in Ranchi on Friday evening. He spoke with election officers and election workers in Ramgarh on Saturday.
He added, “Based on this interactions, I felt there is a strong foundation of democracy in Jharkhand.”
Jharkhand marks Voter Readiness at 100%
The CEC further added that no appeals concerning EPIC (Electors Photo Identity Cards) are pending at the district or chief electoral officer level which means the voter list for the state is almost accurate and clean.
Kumar has requested all Indian citizens who are 18 years and older to check that their names are in the voters list and exercise their democratic right as citizens of the country.
