Indian youth lured into "fake" pizza delivery scam in US, shot dead
Suspense Crime, Digital Desk : An Indian who worked as a pizza delivery boy in the US has been shot and killed during a "fake" delivery. The 28-year-old hailed from Telangana.
The deceased Anshul Kuncha worked a part-time pizza delivery job on weekends to earn extra money.
"Fake" orders at night
While delivering the pizza, the young man was sent to a deserted area and on arrival he was fired on by an unknown individual, hit twice in the head and the shooter fled.
According to the family of Anshul, his bag was not taken from him, and no attempt was made to rob him; questions were therefore raised about the reason behind his murder. At the time of his shooting two men wearing hoods over their faces and with backpacks on their shoulders were apparently present in the area according to the victim's relatives.
Anshul robbed before
They revealed that his chain, cell phone and money were previously taken away from him in America, however, he had not been targeted for murder before. The sister of the victim, Tanvi has stated that he had been targeted by the pizza delivery scam to ensure his murder.
He was asked to deliver a pizza to a desert region, but as it later turned out, this was nothing more than an attempt to murder him. We don't know what their motive was and who they are, but they have murdered my brother.
Demands for speedy return of body to India
They have appealed for their brother's body to be sent back to India quickly. Tanvi has added "My brother was a very fun and lively man and had been in the US for about four years. It has now come to our attention that his death resulted from an attempted pizza delivery scam and he was killed for it. Our only hope is that his body can be repatriated at the earliest".
According to Tanvi the body is expected to be released on Monday according to authorities, but the sister has expressed her concerns about whether the family will have enough time to hold funeral ceremonies after receiving it.
She also demanded that the murderer be brought to justice and has indicated that no suspects have been identified, but that their family hopes the perpetrator will be brought to book and be appropriately punished.
Advice against sending young people to America
She went on to warn "parents who are considering sending their children to the U.S. Should be aware of what they are sending them in for. My brother was a fun, amiable person who really had no reason to leave home for America – we only sent him there as we were keen to and even he had not wanted to come, and this is how he ended up. You should never send your children to the U.S.".
The Indian Consul-General in New York has responded that they are liaising with the local police force and with the victim's relatives to ensure their full cooperation and support. Anshul's tragic demise has also alarmed the Telugu community in the U.S. And Telangana.
