Melbourne, 22 May (HS). The City of Parramatta Council in Sydney on Monday elected Indian-origin councilor Sameer Pandey as its new Lord Mayor.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Sydney on Monday for a two-day visit at the invitation of his Australian counterpart. Pandey’s election has been held today itself. An official statement said Pandey was first elected to the council in 2017 and is slated to become the city’s first deputy mayor from the Indian subcontinent in 2022.
