In what is being hailed as one of the most significant victories for internal security in recent years, 106 Naxalites including high-ranking leaders carrying a collective bounty of nearly ₹4 crore have officially surrendered in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar division. This massive group includes 31 women and several "hardcore" operatives who had been active in the insurgent movement for decades.

The surrender took place in the presence of senior police and CRPF officials, marking a major psychological and tactical blow to the Maoist movement in the region.

The Magnitude of the Bounty

What makes this event extraordinary isn't just the number of people, but their seniority within the organization. Among those who laid down their arms were members of the Divisional Committee (DVCM) and commanders of the People's Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA).

The Big Names: Some individuals carried individual rewards as high as ₹8 lakh to ₹10 lakh.

Collective Reward: The cumulative bounty on the heads of these 106 individuals totaled approximately ₹3.98 crore, reflecting their high involvement in previous ambushes and tactical operations.

Why are they coming back?

Officials attribute this record-breaking surrender to a two-pronged strategy:

Increased Pressure: Continuous operations by security forces in "deep-core" areas have cut off supply lines and communication for the rebels.

The ‘Puna Narkom’ Campaign: The local administration’s "New Dawn" (Puna Narkom) initiative has been successful in convincing lower and middle-rung cadres that the Maoist ideology is failing them, while the government offers a path to rehabilitation, housing, and employment.

The Path Forward: Life After the Jungle

Under the Chhattisgarh government's surrender and rehabilitation policy, these individuals will receive immediate financial assistance, vocational training, and support to reintegrate into society. For many of the 31 women who surrendered, this represents an opportunity to escape a life of constant conflict and seek education for their children.

This event sends a clear message across the Red Corridor: the tide is turning. As more cadres choose the ballot over the bullet, the dream of a peaceful and developed Bastar moves closer to reality.
