India Responds to Pahalgam Attack with Strong Measures Against Pakistan, Modi Vows Decisive Action:

Suspense crime, Digital Desk : Following the terrorist attack on Pahalgam which claimed the lives of more than 26 people including foreign nationals, Modi has once again emphasized India’s fight against terrorism. Addressing the media alongside President of Angola, João Lourenço, Modi condemned terrorism as “the biggest threat to humanity” while thanking Angola for its support and condolences.

India Set to Ban All Trade Relations with Pakistan

As a major retaliatory step, India has banned the import and transit of all goods originating from or exported by Pakistan. There appears to be no indication as to when this would change. Direct and indirect imports initiated by Pakistan are completely blocked under the May 2 notice issued by the Ministry of Commerce.

Port and shipping officials have also confirmed that all vessels registered to Pakistan are no longer permittted access to Indian ports. Update of the recently initiated Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) 2023 reflects this amendment.

Pahalgam Attack Review: Among the Most Brutal in Recent History

The attack in Pahalgam is regarded as one of the most brutal attacks the region has recently faced. In an effort to integrate further militarized terror into the Kashmiri insurgency, Pakistan based terrorists of Lashkar – e – Taiba claim responsibility of the gruesome attack on 22 April last year. TRF as the group has named itself, claimed the responsibility but later rescinded the statement due to the backlash that followed.

Pakistan and India Cut Diplomatic and Military Relations with One Another

Following the attack, India enacted a broad set of punitive measures aimed at isolating Pakistan diplomatically and economically.

India’s response included the following actions:

Complete and utter cessation of The Indus Water Treaty
Trimmed socio-political relations at the Indian embassy in Islamabad
Prohibition of Pakistani commercial flights using Indian airspace
Removal of Pakistani defense officials
Cancellations of all issuance of visas to Pakistan including those for humanitarian healthcare
Emissive order stated all Pakistani citizens living in India must vacate the country within seconds

These are some of the harshest unilateral actions taken in recent years.

India goes on to further strive for international cooperation and engagement as can be seen in these remarks by Modi, stating how it aims to hold other countries accountable toward joint security efforts.
